The Speen Pre-School Staff Team

We cater for a maximum of 20 children daily aged from 2 - 5 years and have a small staff team who get to know the children well.

The staff:child ratios required by Ofsted are:

  • children aged two: 1 adult : 4 children
  • children aged three to five: 1 adult : 8 children

We use a key worker approach to ensure that each child and their family has a named member of staff to form a relationship with regarding the child's well-being and development in the Pre-School. The key person is regularly available for discussion and consultation on the child's progress.

Our Leader has completed her Foundation Degree in Early Years, and our Deputy Leader has E100- The Early Years:Developing Practice (Level 4).

Our other Pre-School assistants hold NVQ level 3 or equivalent.

All staff members have Safeguarding and Food Hygiene Training.  At least two members of staff daily are First-aid trained.

All staff are encouraged to build on present qualifications by attending workshops and courses available to early years practitioners.

'Staff develop trusting relationships with parents in order to support their child both in the nursery and at home.  Children are safe & secure, & staff meet their welfare needs effectively.'

'Staff observe the children's progress and record this in their learning journals, which clearly show how the children's skills are emerging and identifies their next steps.'
